“The heat is on
Oh, it’s on the street
The heat is on”
The Heat is On by Glenn Frey, 1984
Whew! It’s HOT! Growing up in South Carolina, I always thought I’d get used to the heat. That has not been the case. Coming up on July, we are looking at 100 plus degree temperatures. No need to do hair, a hair tie is all I’ll need. No need to do make-up, it’ll just melt off. I figure if I can throw on a little extra DO for the BO, I’m good.
I just turned 50. I, along with my other ladies “of a certain age,” tend to stay hot 98% of the time. As I’ve suffered through hot flashes over the past several years, I’ve developed a survival kit to get me through the hot times. I hope by sharing these tips with all of you that you can find something useful to get yourself through the next couple of very hot months!
- Handheld fan- Get a little handheld fan or 5. I have them stuck everywhere; in the bathroom, in the bedroom, in the den, in my car. I have one in my purse in case the AC is not up to my standards in various restaurants and shopping establishments. Make sure you get the rechargeable kind. Here’s a good one on Amazon: Handheld Fan
- Ice cold water- my mom would always tell me, “when you’re going through ‘the change,’ ice water is your BEST FRIEND.” She was right; it really does help. Get yourself a well-insulated water bottle. I love a good Owala or Stanley cup. Ooh, and they even have patriotic ones for the upcoming 4th!
- The sweat, oh, the sweat! I like the Megababe products. They’re great to use. The powder under your girls, and the chub rub for your legs. I canNOT stand to have underboob sweat OR for my legs to rub together because my shorts aren’t long enough. These products are great.
- Finally, the bane of my husband’s existence, the MUMU. The mumu has long been a staple of menopausal women. But when the weather gets this hot, everyone needs a comfy, all-cotton, sweat absorbing frock to toss on. I quite enjoy the ones I buy from Wal-mart. A few are featured on their website and best of all, they are all around or under 10 bucks!
These are my top picks to keep cool. If you have more suggestions, be sure to comment! As always, stay cool….love, Fletch
