When is Mom’s Labor Day?

·

As I headed home yesterday, the interstate was backed up with cars headed to the beach, the mountains, or some other three day getaway. Glad that I wasn’t in the traffic, but a little jealous of where they may be headed, I picked up my kid. She begged me to head to the local mall….and had been begging for a couple of weeks. I thought, “why not?” and we headed there.

Now, that was a stupid move on my part, as I had just gotten off work and was pretty worn out already. But I summoned the energy to be dragged around to Bath and Body Works, Miss A, and Claire’s. The urgency to head to Claire’s being caused by the fact that a nation-wide announcement on the news reported that all Claire’s would be going out of business within the next month. (This was unfounded, as the clerk said ANOTHER company had purchased Claire’s and that they, in fact, were NOT closing.)

Getting up on this Saturday morning and doing the stare-off with the piles of everything: laundry, papers, etc……makes me as tired as I was last night.

So, when is Mom’s Labor Day? When do moms get a day off? DO they get a day off? No, not really. Really all we can do is take things one day at a time. Prioritize what needs to be done today, tomorrow, the next day. Take time for self-care (I threw that in for you to have a good laugh, because, well—WHO has time for that?!?)

Kind of reminds me of the theme song to that 80’s show, “The Facts of Life: You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have the facts of life.”

One day at a time….one day at a time….one day at a time.
