As our Southern summer rolls into a 5 degree cooler preview of Southern fall, the need for a cool treat remains. Today the kid and I visited Sweet Izzy’s. It is a new ice cream parlor that has been in Chapin for about a year. It sits in a little strip mall amongst a restaurant, eye exam office, and dog treat cafe.
I was skeptical that an ice cream parlor would do well in our town. However, one visit to this shop lets one know that it is quickly becoming a part of our community. The owner has children who visit draw pictures of ice cream cones, which then becomes decor on the walls. Speaking of the walls, they are painted pastel pinks and teal blues…all putting you in mind of sprinkles.
The variety of ice creams is plentiful…and they are rotated regularly. The menu has everything from sundaes to pupwiches. I noticed today that they are doing “flights” of ice creams; try 4 for $8. They have special promotions. Today was Plinko day, where at check-out you have the opportunity to release the Plinko chip on the board and have the chance to win a variety of sweet treats.
My favorite time at Sweet Izzy’s is the time that I spend with my daughter. As we discussed our day over ice cream, the worries of the day melted away. (Ha, ha…did you like that little pun?)
Next time you’re in Chapin, check out Sweet Izzy’s. Because, as the neon sign in the shop says, “Ice Cream Solves Everything.”
