Trying on the glass slipper…

I took the kid to the South Carolina State Museum on Saturday to visit the “Heroes and Villians: The Art of the Disney Costume” exhibit. The traveling exhibit, on display through October 26, is a dream for people who love Disney, fashion, and facts.

A variety of movies and tv shows were represented. I was most impressed with the ones I had seen personally. It was neat to see the Sanderson sisters’ costumes from Hocus Pocus 2 and Captain Jack Sparrow’s costume from Pirates of the Caribbean. Looking at the costumes impressed upon me how very small most actors and actresses are. While they look larger than life onscreen, they are mostly very petite. My daughter stood next to Danny DeVito’s costume from Dumbo, and she is taller than him!

The beadwork on costumes such as Jasmine’s from Aladdin and Queen Narissa’s from Enchanted was beautiful. We watched a short film within the exhibit about the various Cinderella dresses on display. It took 18 people about 3 months to create and do the beadwork on Lily James’ Cinderella gown!

A couple of classic costumes were on display. It impressed me to see Bette Davis’ dress from Return from Witch Mountain.

This was an activity I had wanted to do over the summer; we just never got around to it. However, with Gamecock football starting up soon, I knew it would be difficult to get downtown on a Saturday again in the near future. I am so glad that we went; it was definitely worth it!
