A Flea in Her Ear…

·

The kid had a new experience this past Saturday…her first trip to the flea market. We visited The Barnyard, located in Lexington. I gave my daughter a little pep talk before we got out of the car: the usual “no stuffies, no junk to add to our junk at home.” She responded that what we had at home was “NOT junk, it was BEAUTY!”

We meandered into the first building to the outside tables. I was afraid that she would want to spend all of her allowance on the first table. I was wrong. It was the second table. The lady was selling handmade jewelry. She had some cute Halloween earrings, so I was sucked in as well.

As we walked through the vast array of baseball cards, collectable coins, and some questionable food with “best by” dates that had already passed, I thought about how everyone has different things that appeal to them. I certainly do. I also saw what does NOT appeal to me, and that was the snakes someone was selling about half-way through the second building.

I expected to see many trendy items. I did. I saw an elusive faux Labubu at one lady’s booth. My kid has been begging for one for the entire summer. The lady was selling the Fauxbubu’s for $20, so we struck a deal. While I do have “sucker” written across my forehead, I felt pretty pumped that the following building had the same Fauxbubu for $60 and $65, respectively.

We bought some boiled peanuts as we exited the flea market, with my husband and daughter already planning to go back. It was certainly a new experience for my daughter, and she enjoyed it. I had fun as well. Guess I’ll go play with our new Fauxbubu now.
