The annual tax-free weekend is going on right now in South Carolina. This is the 25th year that we have been able to enjoy a three day weekend of savings on school supplies, new clothes, and yes, even bath rugs.
Our day started at Lowe’s Home Improvement. We went to collect this month’s My Lowe’s Rewards program swag. Today’s gift was a small Lowe’s themed blue and white soccer ball in a drawstring bag, complete with a little air pump. Lowe’s has had a few neat giveaways this year: a plushie dog in a mini Lowe’s bucket, some jibbitz for Crocs, and a plant. While I’m guessing these are aimed at the youngest customers, I imagine most of Lowe’s target audience would like to get a free tape measure or some work gloves. BUT, if mini Lowe’s buckets are your jam, go to https://www.lowes.com/l/about/mylowes-rewards to sign up for a FREE account.
We headed to TJ Maxx, Office Depot, and ULTA. While ULTA had a sale, sadly, cosmetics are not on “the list” of tax-free items. Office Depot was, as expected, full of parents and children looking at school lists of school supplies, trying to find THE exact three ring binder with clear pockets that the third grade teacher said they had to have. There is always a difference of opinion between a mom who is holding up a plain three ring binder with clear pockets and her 8 year old who is loudly telling their mother that they “just have to have” the Pokemon binder with card inserts included to show off their Pokemon card collection to their friends.
TJ Maxx is always a nightmare on a Saturday, much less a tax-free one. As I navigated the aisles full of “stuff,” I heard many amusing conversations. In the bed and bath section, a girl whom I assumed was in college (she said she needed it for the dorm,) was insisting that she needed a green plant-themed shower curtain to go along with her room’s theme. Intrigued, I was amused to hear her elaborate on the fact that her theme is Blanche’s room from The Golden Girls. I meandered a bit more, not really finding anything, and left. It was very crowded and I was getting tired of being nearly run over by various shopping carts and poked by over-sized imitation Louis Vuitton bags.
Is the tax-free weekend worth it? Leave me a comment. I’m interested to hear your thoughts and about the suh-weet deals you got this weekend!
